Today, I open with much gratitude. I am grateful that I am healthy, and all my family, friends, and coworkers are too.

Watching the horror of the nightly news for weeks on end with updates on how many people all over the world are dying from the COVID-19 pandemic is depressing and sobering.  Today more than ever it has gotten clearer to me how interconnected we all really are.

While these are very challenging times for sure, I am moved by the love and kindness going on all over the world.

Neighbors helping neighbors – running errands and getting groceries

People helping strangers – donating food and supplies, making and donating masks

Nurses holding the hands of their dying patients and doing Facetime calls with their families so they can say goodbye

Medical professionals putting their lives at risk to save lives

Unsung heroes showing up every day to do their job: the grocery store workers, restaurant workers, truck drivers, sanitation workers, transportation workers, postal workers, manufacturing workers all putting their lives at risk to keep our basic needs covered

Neighborhood singalongs nightly

Performers offering free concerts and museums offering virtual tours

Families playing board games, doing puzzles and creating fun dance videos

Families reconnecting through zoom calls, virtual coffee and wine meetings with friends

So, the world doesn’t seem so big right now.  We are truly interconnected to each other.  My hope for the world is our new normal will be one of gratitude for what we have, understand the true value of human connection and a gentler more loving world.
