Band on stage at a summer concert in the park

My town sponsers a free concert series every Wednesday during the summer. In the spirit of “The Summer of Me,” I attended last week. It was a Chicago tribute band and being a girl of the ’70s, the music really spoke to me.

As the first song started, I could feel myself relaxing in my chair. I looked around at the crowd. So many people of all types: young, old, couples, singles, families. There was dancing and a whole lot of head bopping – including mine!

I believe music is a gift. It goes right to your soul and makes your heart sing. A song can transport you to the time and place you first heard it. Music unites people.

Many towns have concerts, movies in the park, art fairs, and farmers markets – and most of these activities are free. So get out there and explore your own community!

Your heart will be singing, too.
